Yeah, yeah. Obvious joke. You're armed, and the Merchant isn't particularly inclined to brandish his wares. Why not rob him blind?
Yeah, well how about not shooting the farmers? How about peaceful negotiation?
How about not going it alone, and actually waiting for backup to arrive?
Because it's a game mechanic. Duh. Obvious jokes are obvious.

Subtitle - xxvii. "Bargaining"
(Pain and the Captain once again approach the mysterious Merchant, who has set up shop within an alcove inside the castle.)
Pain: Ah, just the man...*thing* I was looking for.
Captain: You have a shop inside the castle?
Merchant: Several. Makes a good trade, stranger.
Pain: I bet. Look, we'll take everything.
(The Merchant closes his eyes in contentment.)
Merchant: That'll be one million Pes-
(He opens his eyes and sees Pain's Magnum hovering in front of his face.)
SFX (gun): CLICK
Pain: I said we'll *take* everything, because unlike all the other gullible suckers you probably get coming through here, we have few scruples about robbing you blind.
Captain: Heh.
(The Merchant raises his hands as Pain continues to wave his gun in front of his face.)
Merchant: If you shoot me, I won't come back here to serve you.
Pain: Oh, my heart bleeds. And while we're here, you can explain how you keep arriving before us.
(The Merchant frowns.)
Merchant: I'm a fast runner.
(Pain leans in, still pointing the gun. He's enjoying this.)
Pain: Oh yeah, I'll swallow that, Hunchback of Pubelo Dame. I suggest you tell us the short cut out of here.
(There is a pointlessly dramatic extreme close up of both the Merchant and Pain's eyes.)
Merchant: This is very unusual, stranger. You're not like the others that come through here.
Pain: No shit?
