[Chapter 1: Occupant Sin 4]
Chapter 1: Occupant Sin 4
Mr. S. Pain goes to Spain! Travelling to a remote rural location with the Captain to buy a biological weapon, Pain finds himself suddenly up against a massive cult of Spanish brainwashed zealots out for his blood.
Can the intervention of a seven-foot Scotsman and a well-dressed woman who looks suspiciously like his accountant save the day? And what role does the druggie superagent Jack Bauser play in things?
(It's basically Resident Evil 4. Seriously.)
Episode published on Tuesday 17th of October, 2006.
Crows in Resident Evil 4 carry weapons and gold. This goes uncommented. It just happens, like it's normal. The most my pet cockatiel Jim ever picked up was mange. I suppose it could be argued that the birds are carrying this stuff in order to line their nests, but that would surely be magpies? I'm no ornithologist; all I'm implying is that the birds carrying grenades and entire chests of money are a little peculiar.
Perhaps this is the logical extension of the themes presented in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds? After realising that attacking en masse was all well and good, humans still have things like cars and guns. To hark back to the ending of Batman Begins, maybe this is just escalation? We buy BB guns, and they start stealing flash grenades. We buy cats, and they start pinching C4. You get the idea.
I might be over-analysing a game mechanic a little bit too much, but don't come crying to me when the birds are knocking down your door with that battering ram they stole off of a police SWAT van.
Darwin would be proud.

(The Captain and Pain are strolling through more countryside. Pain is whistling, and the Captain seems distracted by something off-panel that we can't see. He swings out his mini-UZI from behind his back and fires off a shot in the direction of the thing that has his attention, much to Pain's surprise.)
SFX: DAKKA! BAAAAAAWK!
(Pain turns around to face the Captain.)
Pain: Must you constantly do that?
Captain: Wow!
(The Captain picks up a dead bird and a small chest of treasure full of glowing gold coins.)
Captain: This crow was carrying a small treasure chest full of money!
Pain: What?!
(The Captain turns and fires off another round into another crow. It drops something.)
SFX: DAKKA! BAAAAAWK!
(The Captain picks up and examines the rounded blue object, while Pain discreetly pockets the treasure chest into the recesses of his jacket interior.)
Captain: And this one dropped a flashbang grenade!
Pain: Bizarre. Probably the local wildlife adapting to their surroundings.
Captain: Flash grenades and money?
Pain: Better than uranium.
Captain: Well you're right there. Weeding the Detulux garden is hell!
(We cut back to the forest behind the Detulux building, where two Detulux security guards are fleeing in terror from a giant mutated bunny rabbit. It has dead eyes and blood on its fangs.)
Bunny: GNASH! SNARL!
Guards: Nice bunny! AAAAAGH!
Episode tagline: No crows were harmed in the making of this comic. Well, apart from the two crows that got shot of course.
