[Chapter 2: An Inspector Calls]
Chapter 2: An Inspector Calls
The Detulux team are shocked when the latest INTERPOL agent assigned to their case, Inspector Jacques Russo, puts two-and-two together and realises that Detulux Incorporated the legitimate domestics supplier might have something to do with Detulux Incorporated the illegal arms trading firm.
There's a mad scramble as Inspector Russo makes a surprise visit to Detulux HQ. Will Russo find evidence of a link and arrest the team? Is Pain really dressing as Doc Holliday and putting on a terrible Southern drawl as a disguise? What does Pain's (very expensive) solicitor have to say about all this?
Episode published on Sunday 15th of May, 2016.
I haven't got any background in law whatsoever so I have no idea if this is a situation that could ever happen or if Slymme could wrangle a reduced search of a premises or whatever. Most of my exposure to law stuff comes from TV and I don't watch a lot of police procedurals.
However, we must keep in mind that Slymme is a very good (and expensive) lawyer!

(Still in the reception area, Pain places a hand on his chest while Russo crosses his arms.)
Paine: We haven't been formally introduced.
Russo: Inspectair Jacques Russo of Intairpul.
Paine: And ahm Sebastian Paine, proprietor of the world-famous Detulux Incorporated.
Russo: Oui, indeed, your company eez synonymous wiv deux thengs: washeng machinés, et eehlegal arms tradeng.
(D.P. Slymme, Pain's lawyer, leans in front of Pain facing Russo to interject the conversation, a finger raised.)
Slymme: I would just like to interrupt there and say that the two activities are not mutually exclusive in this particular context. Detulux Incorporated does not endorse or recognise the practise of illegal arms trading and any further comment to suggest such a thing may in fact be libel, or slander, or even both [once I'm finished with you].
(Pain steps to the side of Slymme, introducing the man to Russo with a gestured hand.)
Paine: Inspector Russo, this is mah esteemed lawyer Mr. Dyrt-Pype Slymme. He's here to ensure fair play on the legal front, if you catch my drift.
(Slymme shakes Russo by the hand.)
Slymme: My friends call me "D.P.". You can call me "Mr. Slymme".
Russo: You must be ze man who 'as denied us accez to ze entiyaire buildéng. Tell mé, what 'ave you got tu 'ide?
Slymme: Please understand Inspector that you are here as Mr. Paine's guest, and that such notions of criminality are founded entirely on suspicions. I believe the term is "innocent until proven guilty"? [And if you had pushed for investigating the entire grounds I'd have had you up for undue trespassing quicker than you could say “sacre blue”.]
(Russo gives Slymme a cutting glare while looking in Paine's direction.)
Russo: Hmm. Yur lawyair eez vairy good at lawyeng.
Episode tagline: "Lawying" is definitely a verb in my dictionary. My dictionary also contains the word "embiggen". I think there's something wrong with my dictionary.
