Chapter 1: Occupant Sin 4

Mr. S. Pain goes to Spain! Travelling to a remote rural location with the Captain to buy a biological weapon, Pain finds himself suddenly up against a massive cult of Spanish brainwashed zealots out for his blood.

Can the intervention of a seven-foot Scotsman and a well-dressed woman who looks suspiciously like his accountant save the day? And what role does the druggie superagent Jack Bauser play in things?

(It's basically Resident Evil 4. Seriously.)

Page Notes

Episode published on Sunday 27th of May, 2012.

In Resident Evil 4, when Leon radios in for help, they send some cowboy in a helicopter called "Mike". He does a startlingly good job of shooting up Saddler's forces before unceremoniously being killed by a rocket-propelled grenade. Leon reacts to this by screaming "MIIIIIKKKKEEE" at the remains of the helicopter as they fall down a cliff, creating an in-joke between me and my significant other in always saying "MIIIIKKKEEE" every time we encounter an NPC in a game who's almost certainly going to die at the hands of the villain for cheap dramatic tension. Jeff the Cameraman from Uncharted 2 is a perfect example and we had friends who would regularly get confused when we referred to Jeff as "MIIIIIKKKEEE".

I'm a fan of Top Gear. At the time of writing this the boys have gone on to leave the BBC and set up The Grand Tour on Amazon, which is alright but lacks the mischief of their BBC shenanigans. The reason the former show works better over the latter is because it felt like they were supposed to be giving the BBC a motoring show but were dicking about with the cash they were given instead. They can reference the head of Amazon as many times as they like to try and make it feel like they're misbehaving but we all really know they've been given carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want.

(Burdener is incredibly confused by the sudden appearance of an army, raising his staff defensively)

Burdener: What!?! What is this?!

(Pain addresses his audience, finger raised as he makes his point. Henchmen flank him, attempting to look imposing. A thought bubble takes up half the panel, depicting Pain calling for help in a comms room.)

Pain: Unlike that FBI chap who’s looking after the President’s daughter, when I report into HQ and tell them that I’m stranded on an island inhabited by murderous Spaniards, they send a little thing called “reinforcements”. And unlike the FBI, we define “reinforcements” as being a lot more than just some cowboy called Mike in a helicopter.
Editor's note: *Pain got to the comms room back in Episode 55.

(Behind Pain's shoulder, the Captain looks up, confused.)

Cap: Mike?
Pain: Just an example.

(An elite henchman approaches Pain and salutes. He has a fussy little waxed moustache and there is a microphone attached to his helmet. Pain shouts at the man upon being addresseed by him, spitting as he speaks.)

Lieutenant: Reporting for duty, sir!
Pain: What took you all so bloody long?

(The henchman doesn't look bothered by being shouted at. He's smiling as he talks.)

Lieutenant: We took a wrong turning, sir! Almost went to Italy, sir! In fact, some of us did...

Narrator: Flying somewhere over Italy...

(We see the interior of a helicopter. Three henchmen are present, the first has long hair, is piloting and looks flustered. The secound is a short man turning to speak to the first with an earnest expression on his face. The third is an older man with short, curly hair and a paunch. He looks confused and is scratching his head. All three look strikingly similar to the three presenters of a certain British motoring show.)

Henchman 1: I never knew the Leaning Tower was in Spain!
Henchman 2: It isn't. Permission to say "cock".
Henchman 3: Detulux Inc... Ambitious but rubbish!

Episode tagline: Detulux Inc unfortunately takes place in a world where the convertible people carrier, the Toyboata, the Damper Van and the Luxury Condo Caravan never came to be. Rest assured that Security Officer Clarkson will be racing security personnel Hammond and May back to base in a car vs. helicopter situation.
