Chapter 1: Occupant Sin 4

Mr. S. Pain goes to Spain! Travelling to a remote rural location with the Captain to buy a biological weapon, Pain finds himself suddenly up against a massive cult of Spanish brainwashed zealots out for his blood.

Can the intervention of a seven-foot Scotsman and a well-dressed woman who looks suspiciously like his accountant save the day? And what role does the druggie superagent Jack Bauser play in things?

(It's basically Resident Evil 4. Seriously.)

Page Notes

Episode published on Monday 3rd of September, 2007.

One of my favourite cutscenes in Resident Evil 4 is a tense conversation between Ada Wong and Jack Krauser. During RE4 they are both secretly working for the series' main antagonist, Albert Wesker, but both have their own objectives and don't particularly like each other. Why Wesker doesn't just do his own damn dirty work is beyond me, but then I'm sure he's busy watching satellite TV in a dark room while wearing sunglasses.

Krasuer actually does say "We'll see soon enough if he did". It doesn't make any sense in any context. In what way will they see soon enough if someone met the boss first, and in what way does it have any bearing on the conversation?!

Title - 53: "Occupant Sin 4"
Subtitle - xxxiv. "Surreptitious Machinations"

(A spinning knife hovers in the air for a moment, at the top of an arc. It swings back down in the arc and is caught between finger and thumb by Jack Bauser. He's stood in a grotty grey room, talking to Samada who is leant against the wall with her arms crossed. She looks unimpressed. A sign on the wall above them reads "COMM ROOM", inexplicably in English rather than Spanish.)

Bauser: What's the news on our friend Peon?
Samada: The American agent? As far as I know he's been bumbling around looking for Hayley. Where is she?
Bauser: With Burdener.

(Bauser absent-mindedly clenches his hand around the blade end of the knife, blood trickling from the side of his hand. Samada turns her back on him.)

Samada: And the sample?
Bauser: Burdener's got it. It seems he's sniffed out our little game.
Samada: Perfect. I suspect Pain won't be far behind.
Bauser: Just so we understand each other clearly, I don't trust you, neither does the Consortium.

(He releases his grip on the knife, pulling it away with his other hand. He hasn't noticed the sticky, stringy blood on the knife or the self-afflicted gash in his palm.)

Bauser: If you try to do anything clever, I will kill you.

(Samada has woke up from her indifference, and is bemused by Bauser's comment, smiling.)

Samada: Is that so?
Bauser: Let's get one thing straight, the only reason you are conscious right now is because Jack Bauser does not feel like carrying you.

(Samada is making a lip-flapping motion with her fingers, her back still faced on Bauser so he can't see it.)

Samada: (under her breath) Blah blah blah. (To Bauser) You know, I met the Boss long before you.
Bauser: We'll see soon enough if you did.
Samada: ...

(Samada whirls around, her fingers clenched - she's visibly annoyed.)

Samada: WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!?

(Bauser sticks a syringe into his neck, labelled "Mmm, even more Heroin!". His eyes are relaxed.)

Bauser: Whatever.

Episode tagline: If you're holding a gun to Jack Bauser's head, don't count to three before you shoot. Count to 10. That way, you get to live 7 seconds longer.
