Chapter 1: Occupant Sin 4

Mr. S. Pain goes to Spain! Travelling to a remote rural location with the Captain to buy a biological weapon, Pain finds himself suddenly up against a massive cult of Spanish brainwashed zealots out for his blood.

Can the intervention of a seven-foot Scotsman and a well-dressed woman who looks suspiciously like his accountant save the day? And what role does the druggie superagent Jack Bauser play in things?

(It's basically Resident Evil 4. Seriously.)

Page Notes

Episode published on Thursday 28th of December, 2006.

It was a very dull Christmas, apparently!

I think the bodies of dead enemies dissolving was explained in one of the many in-game documents in Resident Evil 4, something to do with the parasite inside the person. The real reason is because having the game retain that many corpses on-screen would cause some serious slowdown in the frame-rate. Still, it's curious how the clothes of the enemies dissolve as well.

I had to go back and "cartoonise" Grissom in this page, as well as the CSI logo. The first time around, I just used some copyrighted images and cranked up the posterise filter. I'm trying to avoid copyrighted material in Detulux now, so past-me will have to put up with his work being changed for the sake of legality. Detulux will always be a free webcomic online and I have no plans to publish it, and I'm sure much of the material could be classed as "fanart", but it's just a little bit safer to do it this way.

Why the random Grissom reference? I was into CSI at the time, and was watching episodes regular. I'm sick of CSI now, but Grissom is still the man! It just wasn't the same when Morpheus from the Matrix took his place.

Title - 29: "Occupant Sin 4"
Subtitle - x. "CSI: Pubelo"

(Pain is adjusting his tie with a big grin on his face. The Captain is not amused, his face covered in a muddy-coloured liquid.)

Pain: Well, that was fun!
Captain: This stuff doesn't taste like water.

(As Captain drip-dries, he throws away his soggy cigarette. Pain pauses to examine one of the bodies from the fight, which appear to be having a strange reaction to injury and death.)

Captain: Hey Boss, I think we'd better clean up this mess. All these bodies lying around could give Spanish forensics a field day.
Pain: It's okay, the bodies appear to be...dissolving.

(The bodies are in fact dissolving, clothes and all.)

Captain: ...I'd like to take back the "they're all high" comment and go with what you said about bio-whatsit weaponry.
Pain: Really? So dissolving into nothingness isn't a side effect of ganja?

(There's a sudden change of pace. We see a title card for a new show of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, starring Gil Grissom.)

Title card: CSI - PUBELO. This week on CSI: Pubelo...Grissom takes on his hardest case yet.

(The scene changes to the village, presumably sometime after Pain and the Captain's fight with the farmers. Even the bonfire has gone out and been replaced with a fresh stake. Grissom shines his pointlessly small torch at the area despite it being daytime, and examines the complete lack of anything, particularly the lack of dead farmer bodies.)

Grissom: Hmm. This is going to be a short investigation!

Episode tagline: Gil Grissom could kick your ass! WITH SCIENCE! And bugs. And rollercoasters.
