Interlude II: Team Thoughtless

Detulux Incorporated is taken over by a man with a terrible cockney accent called "Max Valerion", expenses are negotiated with company solicitor Slymme, the Captain continues to try and speak the local language, the Detulux compound is visited by the self-proclaimed "King of the Gypsies" and the company takes on a new sniper, a new demolitions expert and a receptionist (although technically Harry never stopped wearing the dress).

Page Notes

Episode published on Monday 1st of July, 2019.

As a rule I try not to relate the events of GunJunker to anything that happens in the real world. GJ is set in a world where film tropes define the rules of reality and, given the subject matter of the comic basically boils down to a nasty man selling things that kill people to other nasty people so they can kill people, it seems best to avoid mimicking real life as much as possible in order to avoid offending readers (not that there's anything inherently wrong with offending people).

However, it would seem ignorant to not touch upon the fact that one of the main characters in the comic happens to live in a popular landmark that recently (and tragically) conflagrated. In fact it would almost be rude to carry on having him live there while the real thing undergoes repairs so we figured it best that Notre Dame undergo the same treatment as it did in reality within the GJverse. Maybe once the Cathedral is repaired we'll move Ralph back in, who knows?

Our hearts go out to the residents of Paris as to the damages done to the historic cathedral. Here's to the repair work.

Title - 140: "Spira, Spera"

(Dr. Ivanovich Gyrode reads the newspaper while drinking tea. Behind him, a tall red-headed woman yawns while waiting for the coffee machine to stop boiling. He pauses in reading, puts down the tea and walks to the far side of the room where a table stands with a land line telephone resting atop of it. It's a novelty red phone with a statue of a cartoonish Stalin holding the receiver, which Gyrode reaches for. Elsewhere, Dr. Ralph Smiffington III is drinking tea in the dark while reading from a yellowed old book. Behind him a badly-made robot clumsily moves crates. Ralph's smart phone rings, he rolls his eye as he reluctantly picks up. As he takes the call one of the robot's arms falls off. The following conversation moves between both doctors as they talk over the telephone.)

Ralph: Dr. Ralph Smiffington III, International Supercriminal, if I don't know who you are I will trace your call and vaporise your house with you in it.
Gyrode: What did you-
Ralph: -Gyrode. Before you ask, I had absolutely nothing to do with Notre Dame's conflagration! And I'm fed up of people insinuating that I had anything to do with it!
Gyrode: Not even slightly involved?

(The robot behind Ralph bends over to pick up its own arm. Its head falls off as it leans forward.)

Ralph: Gyrode, I lov...had affectionate emotions I'd rather not describe toward that particular French edifice. It felt like a home away from home!

(Ralph shakes his fist in the air in anger. It's revealed he is sitting on a lop-sided cardboard box with the word "FRAGILE" scrawled across the side of it. infront of him is various crates and boxes piled on top of one another.)

Ralph: And it's a bloody nuisance that some tosser has gone and ruined it! I'm currently relocating my entire life to a less impressive location.
Gyrode: Okay, comrade. I'll let you mourn!
Ralph: Bugger off and eat your own moustache!

(Hanging up, Ralph stares slightly sadly at a screen showing footage of Notre Dame burning.)

Ralph: Mourning in Paris, the city doesn't awake to the bells of Notre Dame…

(He goes back to reading his book. It's The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo.)

The creative team behind GunJunker would like to extend their sympathies to the residents of Paris and the population of France. We wish you all the best with the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral.
